Through SkillBridge, active-duty military members can spend their final 180 days of service gaining real-world experience alongside our expert teams at one of the nation’s leading MROs. Miles’ Journey
SkillBridge was an amazing opportunity during my transition out of the military. I chose West Star Aviation after connecting with Sean Walty, NDT Director, who shared the opportunity with me. It turned out to be the perfect fit and helped ease the stress of job hunting while confirming that NDT was the right path for me.
The support I received from the team was incredible. Sean Walty guided me through the process and checked in daily to make sure everything went smoothly. Michelle Guerra, Sr. HR Generalist & DER, helped me complete every step while managing a hectic move, and Rob Fischer, NDT Technician II, became an incredible mentor during my time at the MIV facility.
Since then, I’ve had the chance to work across the U.S. and learn from talented NDT professionals like Marcy Collum, NDT Level III Inspector, and Matt Phelps, A&P Mechanic / NDT Technician II. The internship taught me not only technical skills but also life lessons — from buying my first car to learning how to cook.
I’m now proud to work full-time with the West Star Aviation NDT/MRT team and to be an example of the success SkillBridge can offer.
