What you can expect as a Lead Aircraft Detail Technician at West Star:

In this role, you will oversee a skilled team, guide project flow all while ensuring the highest standards of quality in aircraft detailing. Your daily responsibilities will include processing work orders, maintain logbook entries, and managing diverse detailing tasks, keeping each day dynamic and engaging. You’ll enjoy autonomy to work independently while leading multiple projects and will have the exciting opportunity for direct customer interaction. 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Perform, wash, wax and detail work of aircraft interiors and exteriors.
  • Polish, buff or treat aircraft sections as required.
  • Shop floor clean-up and assistance in other minor cleaning duties.
  • Monitor and inspect aircraft detailing.
  • Work independently on projects and lead multiple projects assigned. Schedule and work quality are essential in these functions, as is showing excellent drive and initiative.
  • Work with customers in project management, pricing and customer support roles.
  • Look for opportunities (within your area of responsibility) to reduce turn time of aircraft.
  • Train/mentor your employees.
  • Supervise team members in daily work and project management for completion of projects.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

 

What you’ll need to bring with you:

Your Education
A high school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal

Your Experience
5+ years’ experience in aircraft detailing preferred.
Experience in supervising four or more team members highly preferred.

Your Initiative   
We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated, flexible and skilled at working in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. 

Your Sense of Responsibility        
Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day.
Must perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
Direct the work and flow of multiple projects.
Supervision of team members in daily operations and duties.
Completion of work orders, FAA paperwork. 

Other Particulars:

Physical Requirements 
Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
Climbing on ladders up to 12' in height.
Working on various work stands in and on aircraft wing area on a routine basis.

Understanding basic job functions and guidelines.
Work with others in a professional manner.
Coordinate projects.
Team management skills.
Good communication skills. 

Supervision        
Work under supervision of the Paint Manager.
Will directly supervise multiple technicians.
Work with other Team Leaders on multiple projects in a cooperative manner. 

Working Conditions                       
The majority of work will be accomplished in a hangar environment which can include extreme heat or cold.
Work in aircraft on ramp may occur.
Varied positions in and around the aircraft. 

Equipment Used                             
Pneumatic buffers and sanders.
Various rags, towels and cleaning equipment.
Floor cleaning machine.
