What you can expect as a Landing Gear Technician at West Star:

This position includes varying amounts of inspection, troubleshooting, adjustments, repairing, performing overhauls and testing aircraft landing gear components on a variety of aircraft models. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with their hands and have a love of mechanical functions. This is a fast-paced environment where you will be required to work as a team or independently depending on the project.  All technicians will use personal protection equipment according to manufacturers’ specifications, in a safe and clean work environment.  This position requires a high attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records of repairs performed as required by the FAA and manufacturer.  Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the shop manager. 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Perform overhauls and/or repairs on a wide variety of different landing gear systems.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in repairing/inspecting different landing gear components.
  • Utilize and consistently learn new procedures on approved overhaul/repairs.
  • Work as a team player and assist co-workers as needed.
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling when required.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management. 

What you'll need to bring with you: 

Education                           
High school diploma or equivalent.

Associate’s degree in related field (aviation or maintenance mechanic) or equivalent preferred.
A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal but not required. 

Experience                         
Landing Gear Overhaul/Repair experience preferred but not required.
Previous mechanical experience required.
A&P Mechanic license is helpful but not required. 

Initiative                             
Self-motivated and able to maintain a rapid pace. 

Responsibility                                  
Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. 
Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day. 

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer-oriented work habits. 

Contacts                            
Team Leader of team assigned.
Company sales representatives.

Customers or outside vendors. 

Physical Requirements   
Lift at least 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands. 

Mental Requirements      
Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.

Work with others in a professional manner. 

Supervision                       
May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Work under supervision of Landing Gear Program Manager. 

Working Conditions        
The majority of work will be accomplished in a heated shop.
Work outside may occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft. 

Equipment Used              
Personal hand tools supplied by the technician.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $20 - $27. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
