What you can expect as a Machine Shop Supervisor at DAS Aviation:
The Machine Shop Supervisor will oversee daily machine shop operations, personnel, and production activities while ensuring safety, quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery. This position will be a leader who can balance production requirements with quality expectations while developing employees and supporting a positive, accountable work environment. Successful candidates will be capable of making sound decisions, solving manufacturing challenges, and driving shop performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. This is a working supervisor position requiring both leadership capability and practical machining knowledge across manual and CNC operations.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:
· Supervise daily activities of machinists, programmers, and support personnel.
· Coordinate manpower and machine resources to meet production schedules.
· Monitor workflow and production priorities to support on-time delivery objectives.
· Ensure compliance with customer requirements, engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications.
· Provide technical support and guidance for manual machining, CNC machining, setup, tooling, and work holding activities.
· Support setup, troubleshooting, and resolution of machining-related issues.
· Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the machine shop.
· Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, and development.
· Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of machine shop personnel.
· Coordinate with Planning, Quality, and Manufacturing departments to resolve production issues.
· Monitor machine utilization, productivity, and shop performance metrics.
· Ensure proper maintenance and care of shop equipment and tooling.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and throughput.
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
· Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
What you’ll need to bring with you:
Your Education
A High school diploma or equivalent required.
A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.
Your Experience
5+ years of machining experience, including manual and CNC machining operations.
2+ years of manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience.
Strong understanding of manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills, and CNC lathes.
Experience with Hurco and/or Fanuc-controlled equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Strong understanding of GD&T.
Experience troubleshooting machining and manufacturing issues.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Aerospace manufacturing and/or FAA Part 145 Repair Station experience.
Experience working within an AS9100 Quality Management System.
Familiarity with Mastercam.
Experience supporting AS9102 First Article Inspections.
Experience managing low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments.
Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
